CRESCENTA VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL
ELECTRONIC DEVICE POLICY

As technology evolves we strive to use the most up-to-date resources to improve instruction and learning.  At the same time, new technologies can cause distractions to the learning environment.  It is becoming increasingly difficult to determine if a device is being used to listen to music, send a text message, make a phone call, surf the Internet, photograph an exam or all of the above.  Teachers are working hard to deliver meaningful instruction and should not have to divert their attention to determining if a device is being used appropriately or not.  In an effort to eliminate distractions from the learning environment, no electronic devices (phones, ipods, MP3 players, game systems, etc.) may be used during the school day (6:55 a.m. to 3:03 p.m.) on the school campus, and these devices must be turned off and put away.  If a student has an electronic device out for any reason, it may be confiscated by a teacher or other staff member.  If confiscated, the consequences are as follows:

Violation
Action Taken
First Offense
The device will be taken to the Assistant Principal's office.
The student/parent may pick it up at the end of the school day.
The student will be assigned one (1) ATS (Saturday Detention).
Second Offense
The device will be taken to the Assistant Principal's office.
The student/parent may pick it up at the end of the school day.
The student will be assigned one (1) day of in-school suspension.
Third Offense
The device will be taken to the Assistant Principal's office.
The student/parent may pick it up at the end of the school day.
The student will be assigned one (1) day of suspension.
Fourth Offense The device will be taken to the Assistant Principal's office.
The student/parent may pick it up at the end of the school day.
The student will be assigned three (3) days of suspension.

Fifth Offense
The device will be taken to the Assistant Principal's office.
The student/parent may pick it up at the end of the school day.
The student will be assigned five (5) days of suspension.

Note:  If a student needs to contact his/her parents or family members, he/she may use the phone in the main office.
